Children and Youth Services

The young population of today is faced with many pressures and stressors that may lead to emotional or behavioral problems. Weems' children and youth staff is skilled in treating a variety of mental health issues, including, but not limited to:

  • Hyperactivity and other behavioral problems
  • Anger, depression, anxiety and other mood disturbances
  • Family relational problems
  • Alcohol and other drug abuse

We offer psychological testing (academic and behavioral), conducted in Meridian by a licensed psychologist. Our staff is also able to provide school-based therapy in the public schools in our region.

The clinical staff in the Division of Children and Youth includes a board-certified child psychiatrist, certified psychiatric nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed clinical psychologists, mental health therapists, day treatment specialists and case managers.

All therapists at Weems are licensed by the Department of Mental Health or a professional association. Many of our providers are in-network for health insurance programs, including Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, CHIP, Advanced Health Systems for State of Mississippi employees, TRICARE, United Behavioral Health and others. Please indicate your insurance carrier when you schedule your appointment.

We now have a parent/community resource library at the Division of Children and Youth building, 1929 23rd Avenue in Meridian. The library, funded by a grant from the Phil Hardin Foundation, has books, periodicals, videos and other resources on autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, severe speech and language delays, and other topics. Some materials may be checked out with a proper ID. For information on the library, call (601) 482-7377.
